Productive Failure: Turning Struggles into Opportunities
October 18 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Effective learning involves making mistakes and struggling with difficult material. “Productive Failure” is a term coined by math educator and educational researcher Manu Kapur for an effective approach to teaching statistics – an approach that encourages students to struggle with the task of data analysis before learning about statistics. In this approach, the act of struggling, and “failing”, sets up the conditions for better learning. In this session, we will explore Productive Failure and expand the notion to include a broad discussion of how “failure” can lead to success in active learning.
